Survey
The most expensive New Year's Eve destinations in California
December 28, 2018A survey conducted by LosAngelesHotels.org found that Pasadena is the priciest destination in California for New Year’s Eve, based on lodging costs.
The survey compared 30 popular destinations in the state based on their respective rates for the most affordable double guestroom for Dec. 31 at centrally-located, 3-star or higher hotels.
Pasadena came out on top, with New Year’s Eve guests spending $321 or more for a guestroom. High room rates can be attributed to the Rose Bowl, as Buckeye and Huskies fans flood the city to cheer on their teams.
Following Pasadena are South Lake Tahoe ($304) and Mammoth Lakes ($299), two of the state’s most popular ski destinations. South Lake Tahoe saw the biggest increase in rates for New Year’s Eve as compared to its average winter rates.
Los Angeles came in not far below Mammoth Lakes, with a starting room rate of $287 per night, putting the city in fifth place. San Diego prices dip a bit further, with least expensive room rates starting at $224. Among some of the most affordable destinations, San Jose and San Francisco rates start at $139 and $159, respectively.
