  Tournament of Roses   Chinese New Year & Lantern Festival
To ring in the Rose Bowl football game, there is a full parade with marching bands and floral floats.    
In South El Monte, you can ring in the Chinese New Year with arts and crafts, ethnic Chinese foods, and carnival rides.

  Healthcare Street Fair   Whale Watching
The Healthcare Street Fair, known as the Feria de La Salud offers free testing for cholesterol, blood pressure, and mammograms. They also offer vaccinations for the young.    
In February, gray whales migrate from Alaska to Baja Mexico, so you can enjoy some really great whale watching from the Los Angeles city harbor.

  City of Los Angeles Marathon   Blessing of the Animals
With its starting point at Disney Hall and live bands along the track, the 26 mile course is a challenge for walkers and runners alike.    
In the Spanish Catholic Feast of St. Anton, priests sprinkle holy water on livestock and bless farmers. In the Los Angeles version of the event, residents bring pets, snakes, and other exotic animals to be blessed.

   Independent Film Festival   Persian Food Festival
Independent filmmakers screen their work while offering workshops to novices and beginners. This event is sponsored by the Directors’ Guild of America.    
This gathering in Tarzana isn't just about Persian food. It's also a great opportunity to enjoy Persian music and other forms of Persian cultural entertainment.

  Cinco de Mayo Festivals   Sherman Oaks Celebrity Golf Classic
Head for MacArthur Park to celebrate the Cinco de Mayo with Hispanic food, music, and crafts.    
If golf is your game, this is certainly an event to catch. The Sherman Oaks Celebrity Classic features celebrity golfers and raises money to benefit area public schools.

   Shakespeare by the Sea   Make Music Pasadena
Head for Point Fermin Park in San Pedro on weekend evenings to catch free performances of Shakespearean classics performed by the sea.    
June 21st is the Summer Solstice and World Music Day. There are free musical performances all around Pasadena, appearing in and around major city venues and randomly in sidewalks around town.

   Twilight Dance Series   AmericaFest
At the Santa Monica Pier at Colorado and Ocean Avenues, you can catch jazz and blues dancing every Thursday evening all month long!    
At the Rose Bowl, you'll find the biggest  Fourth of July fireworks display in Southern California along with the Pasedena Pops and other musical guests.  
             
   August
  Tofu Festival   Surf Festival
Sponsored by the Little Service Center, this festival is dedicated to all of the different foods that can be made from tofu. Located at Joe's Auto Park Lot.    
Australian and American lifeguards compete at a number of events including surfing, swimming, running, and volleyball. Located at the South Bay beaches of Hermosa, Redondo, and Manhattan

  Sweet and Hot Jazz Festival   Harvest Festival
Located at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel on West Century Boulevard, you can find real jazz greats playing this festival on Labor Day Weekend.    
This is a great festival filled with hand-painted clothing, food booths, and a great magic show. Located at the Long Beach Convention Center on Ocean Boulevard.

  True Blue   Oktoberfest
Celebrating the Los Angeles Police Department, the Police Foundation presents the Crystal Angel Awards at the Paramount Studios.    
For those with German roots or simply a love for beer, Oktoberfest is located in Torrance at the Alpine Village. Visitors will find live German bands, contests, and ethnic German food.  
             
  November
  Los Angeles International Tamale Festival   Trash to Treasure Kids Fair
This is a three-day event for all things tamale. There are tamale competitions, tamale vendors, and family entertainment.    
It's never too early to teach children about ecology. This fair is the venue for an art contest challenging children to bring original artworks made from recycled and reused materials.

  Tropicalismo Winter Arts Gift Fair   Reindeer Romp
Tropicalismo Winter Arts Gift Fair is a great place to see fine jewelry, photography, ceramics, and a lot of other handicrafts. You'll find the alternative gallery setting pleasant, and the DJs and refreshments make the fair a great place to do all of your holiday shopping.    
Among the special features that the Los Angeles Zoo has for children in the month of December is a special petting zoo with live reindeer!
